iron|noir 1x7
iron|noir is a prototype for an iron powder based display. Seven rectangular shaped, hand-coiled electromagnets are arranged like a seven- segment display as found in old digital alarm clocks. When being switched on the magnetic field creates a deep shadow-like effect in the iron powder allowing to display any numeric digit.
Using analogue means the outcome is a strange and beautiful effect – a materialized expression of digital information on one hand and a virtual, intangible projection of a shadow on the other hand.

Sonic Prop — Investigating the hyper real in performance
Sonic Prop is a performance tool comprised of an attachable hardware controller and accompanying software patch written in Max MSP for triggering and processing audio samples. The controller contains an accelerometer that senses movement along three axes, used to control the real time performance of sound effects. By attaching and orientating the technology to other props and objects, their behaviour can be modelled and used to superimpose an alternative sound world. This produces exciting results, where the concept of post production sound becomes accessible at the level of real time events.

Weiche
Weiche is a tactical navigation device for cyclists that considers the notions of psychogeography. Directions will be ‘sensed’, as opposed to read from a display, using vibration mechanisms that allow the user to stroll around and experience the city without visual or acoustic distractions. Navigation is not based on point-by-point directions but on an absolute angle relative to the user’s position and bearing. Because of this there is a tolerated element of vagueness to the interface, which potentially encourages interpreting the route to the same destination in many different ways. This could aid the user to break with routines and explore and experience the urban landscape on her journey.
